I like to look at each day as a new opportunity to express my own personal style and make a fashion statement. So as the seasons change, I have the ability to expand my look, incorporate new glamorous pieces and take risks.

As the summer season winds down and the cool weather rolls in, runway shows are overflowing with gorgeous new pieces from top designers. I was moved by some of the curvier models that strutted through Paris wearing Louis Vuitton and Prada. While I do adore the tubular bodies that typically walk the run way, I thought it was refreshing to view real women. In fact, I was better able to see how the clothes would fall on MY body!
Let’s talk about what we need this season.

1. An oversized clutch. This is going to take you from day to night, ladies. It is a must-have!
2. Over the knee boots. This is over the top sexy glamour. I am going to be investing in a pair but, if this is too high for you, I recommend getting a great pair of knee high boots.

3. Maxi Skirts. Maxi dresses make a full on come back last season so inevitably, this fall open your closets to flowy maxi skirts!

4. Pleated skirts are back! My advice on pleats is to ensure that the pleating starts below the hip bone. This is going to give your body the most flattering silhouette.

5. Foolproof platforms. Platforms give you the height you desire with the comfort that you need.

GUESS Swimwear has just released their 2010 fashions, and not a moment too soon as summer is just around the corner.
This year's fashions include something for everyone. Whether you're looking for something that will turn heads, or something that will be comfortable and conservative, there's something in the GUESS Swimwear 2010 line. We'll start from the top and work our way down, covering each basic style of top, bottom, and one piece swimwear.

Our first top is the bandeau bra. This top has a very retro styling, evoking images of 1960s beach parties. This is also a very conservative style, by today's standards, and a good choice for the modest woman that wants a two-piece swimsuit. The nearly tube-top-like shape of the front both conceals and accentuates the breasts quite nicely with the garment's shape. Certainly a good choice for any pool- or beach-goer.

Our next top is the halter bra. This modest yet sexy style takes both its name and much of its styling from the halter top blouse. Composed of two triangles over the breasts (bonus points if you've figured out where "triangle bra" comes from now), that are connected by a ring or strap between the two in the front, and two sets of strings that tie both behind the neck and behind the back. This allows for a very sexy look while still offering appropriate cover.

Starting in on the bottoms, we have the Brazilian bottoms. These are, for lack of better terms, the mid-ground between the traditional bikini cut and the thong, offering a partial covering of the backside, without being all-revealing. For the woman wanting heads to turn, or just wanting a more all-over tan, the Brazilian bottoms are a great option.

On the more modest side, GUESS swimwear offers a variety of full-coverage bottoms. From boy short styles, to standard bikini cut bottoms, to more retro styles, these bottoms offer a more conservative style, while still giving a comfortable fit and an attractive look.

Both Brazilian and full-coverage bottoms have some selections that come with a side-tie. These deserve special mention due to their more flexible fits, and arguably more seductive styling. For the woman wanting either or both, these are worth looking into.

Glitter Lowrise - There are actually a couple of different versions of the Glitter shoes, the first based on the original laceless style and a newer style that additionally features a wide strap that covers (side to side) the vamp. Rhinestone Lowrise - Talk about an eye-catching look - Hello! Another excellent reason to go to business fashion school is if you are interested not just in working for another designer, but if you are interested in designing your own line. In this case, you have to know how to run your business in a business-like way. You can't think that Gucci or Lauren went into fashion with no idea how to manage money, are have any business skills, even if they now use others to do the business end of fashion for them. It should be obvious to you that any students out there who are serious about their success should think about taking some fashion business courses.
When you are looking for a fashion business school, there are a few criteria that you should be looking for. You will want a school that has courses that not only teach the business end of the business, but one that teaches current fashion trends, and the history of fashion. A truism is that you can never know what is going to happen with fashion in the future until you know what went on in the past. Where fashion came from is just as important as where it is going. The evolution of fashion is an important trend that has great bearing upon the business of fashion today. If you know all of these things you will be able and confident to handle all aspects of the fashion industry. This will help not only your career with the company you work for, but for yourself when and if you decide to head out on your own with your own designs and collections.

Pantone 2010 Spring/Summer Color Report

Twice a year, Pantone - the people who provide color standards for the graphic, interior and fashion design worlds - release a color trend report for the upcoming season.
The Pantone 2010 Spring/Summer Color Report is out with its top 10 colors for 2010. It's focused on interior design, decorating and fashion trends, but so are flowers and floral design. Use flowers to bring the hot colors of the season to accent your home or set off your event décor, or to perfectly complement a chic, fashion-forward wedding party.
And the winners are :

Turquoise - also Pantone's "Color of the Year". Think vital and tropical. Turquoise doesn't appear often naturally in the flower world - morning glories, maybe, but they're not found in arrangements often. But that doesn't mean you can't introduce it in other ways - ribbons, silks, vases. Be creative!

Tomato Puree - is a timeless, pure red with just the right blue-orange balance. Of course, there are scores of red flowers - but look for the more saturated, less "orange" toned varieties: Regular and mini carnations, gerbera daisies, amaryllis, and red "Opium" or "Forever Young" roses.

Spring/Summer 2010 Color Trend: Vibrant Brights and a Splash of Sun and Surf
Fusion Coral - is a refreshing, pale orange with pink undertones. Look for salmon rose varieties like "Movie Star" or "Amsterdam". Or include peach mini-carnations, pink limonium, orange snapdragons and salmon tulips.

Violet - If you remember back to your Crayola days, the big 64 crayons sets (the ones with the sharpener!) came with a "Blue Violet" and a "Red Violet". Pantone's 2010 "violet" is in the red-violet direction. Asters are a great filler flower in this vein, and the Blue Curiosa rose is an elegant and romantic violet. Don't be fooled by the names - the purple freesia and hyacinth are a better here than the their more-blue violet varieties. Others that will work are purple anemone, dianthus, gladiolus and liatris - all leaning more to red than blue.

Aurora - Named for natural light displays, this yellow has a greenish undertone. It's not a bright canary color, but adds bold pop to the palette. This spring, bring in some yellow tulips or some yellow cream roses. Yellow oriental lilies or yellow limonium will also bring in green hint you're looking for here.

Amparo Blue - It can be challenging to work natural true blues into floral arrangements because it's not a hue that occurs much in the plant world. Amparo Blue is even tougher - it's a warm but very bright blue. The closest match you'll find is a blue hydrangea, but keep in mind how varied hydrangeas can be. The other blue standbys, like delphiniums, really lean too far to the red/lavender undertone and miss the spirit of Amparo.

Pink Champagne - is a beautiful, elegant and delicate neutral, which you can find with a peachy cream carnations, or in the hint of color in the rose "Vendela".

The Neutrals - Tuscany, Dried Herb and Eucalyptus are soft, rich tones that complement the 2010 Spring/Summer collection. When you work in greens, try including some Curly Willow, or Spanish Moss, or some Seeded Eucalyptus. Think a little less bright green than the more traditional foliage.

Go give it a try - but remember: Pantone creates (and recreates) its color palettes in a nice controlled lab. Nature isn't always so accommodating. If you're working with Pantone's latest palette, or any other color plan, expect - and embrace - a little natural variation in hue and saturation, and you won't be disappointed.
